Location, Lodging, and Travel Information for the
Book Breakthrough NYC
The Book Breakthrough NYC will take place in the heart of Midtown from July 29-31, 2010 at the newly renovated mid-century classic Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel.
We’re excited to host our event in such a New York City cool and classic and space! The hotel has been restored to its former 1960s modernist glory and adorned with 21st century amenities. You can just imagine yourself drinking martini’s with some “mad” 1960s advertising executive, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, and Dick Van Dyck (in Technicolor)—or better yet a New York publisher!

The Vanderbilt YMCA
There are many lodging options in NYC. A recommendation is the Vanderbilt YMCA on 47th (near the United Nations) and literally a 6 minute walk to the Doubletree according to Google Maps. Some room types and prices are: Twin $105.00; Twin with sink $108.00; Bunk (2 beds) $115.00; Double $130.00; Quad (2 sets of bunk beds) $169.00; Double (full-size bed) w/bath: $169.00. Most of these rooms have a shared bathroom. Call for reservations: 212.912.2500, or book online: http://www.ymcanyc.org/index.php?id=1140
DIRECTIONS AND AIRPORT INFO:
From the Airports:
La Guardia Airport (LGA) is the closest—it’s only 10 miles from the Doubletree Metropolitan. Both John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) are about 15 miles from the Doubletree. Depending on the time or your arrival and traffic conditions cab rides from the airports to midtown range from about 20 minutes to 1 hour and 45, so you might want to plan your arrival and departure to avoid rush-hour.
Taxi fares:
- Approximately $26 including the tip plus tolls from LaGuardia
- There is a flat fare of $45 plus tolls from JFK into Manhattan ($52 with a tip)
- Approximately $60 including the tip plus tolls from Newark Liberty
Janet recommends the New York Airport Service bus:

You could also book a shared van ride on the SuperShuttle for around $19.00

From Grand Central: Take the Uptown “6” Train and get off on 51st and Lexington.
